From the naturalistic point of view the territory of the Delta
represents one of the largest and most important complex of
wetlands of Italy and it hosts an extraordinary biodiversity. Also
from the geological point of view the area is very interesting: it is
a mixture of natural events and human intervention.
The main actor of the story is the Po river, with its continuous
supply of natural debris (sand, silt and clay) which create, over
the centuries, new lands, marshes, lagoons and beaches,
slowly stealing the sea space. Man has for many centuries been
working at the side of this Giant Protagonist: first the ancient
Etruscans, then the Romans, the Benedictines, the Este, and
